How fluid-mechanical erosion creates anisotropic porous media

چکیده
Using a Cauchy integral formulation of the boundary equations, we simulate erosion porous medium comprised up to 100 solid bodies embedded in two-dimensional Stokes flow. The grains are resolved individually and erode under action surface shear stress. Through nonlinear feedback with surrounding flow fields, microscopic changes grain morphology give way larger-scale features such as channelization. Cauchy-integral associated quadrature formulas enable us resolve dense configurations nearly contacting bodies. We observe substantial anisotropy develop over course erosion; that is, result from generally permit longitudinal direction more easily than transverse by factor six. These results suggest material groundwater flows may contribute previously observed natural media.

Modeling Fluid Flow in Heterogeneous and Anisotropic Porous Media
Permeability distribution in reservoirs is very important for the flow ofwater or oil and gas. In this study, the effects of various heterogeneous permeability distributions on the flow field are simulated using the finite difference technique. We have simulated the flow for two types of heterogeneous distributions, one is Gaussian and the other is self-similar or fractal, the latter being much...
متن کاملCoupling Fluid Flow with Porous Media Flow
The transport of substances back and forth between surface water and groundwater is a very serious problem. We study herein the mathematical model of this setting consisting of the Stokes equations in the fluid region coupled with the Darcy equations in the porous medium, coupled across the interface by the Beavers–Joseph–Saffman conditions. We prove existence of weak solutions and give a compl...

A stable Alternating Direction Implicit finite-difference algorithm is used to model transient fiuid flow in heterogeneous porous media. In connection with the laboratory system for pressure transient testing of core permeability, the effects of permeability heterogeneities on the characteristics of the pressure transient were investigated. The results show that the early portion of the pressur...

متن کاملStabilizing fluid–fluid displacements in porous media through wettability alteration
We study experimentally how wettability impacts fluid–fluid displacement patterns in granular media. We inject a low-viscosity fluid (air) into a thin bed of glass beads initially saturated with a more-viscous fluid (a water/glycerol mixture). Chemical treatment of glass surfaces allows us to control the wetting properties of the medium and modify the contact angle θ from 5 deg (drainage) to 12...
